Grand Central Station is a one of America’s largest railroad terminals serving 5 counties in New York and Connecticut. It covers 48 acres and has 44 platforms, more than any other railroad station in the world. Its underground platforms serve 41 tracks on the upper level and 26 on the lower. 150,000 people walked through the doors for its inauguration on February 2, 1913 and now, 750,000 visitors pass through daily.
Now some interesting facts about your own Grand Central Station, the brain stem. The human brain stem is the ultimate switching station of your body. Although its size is 1.5 x 2 inches, over 450 million nerve fibers cross through it including those that handle motor functions, fine touch, vibration sensation, spatial awareness, pain and temperature. It plays a critical role in cardiac and respiratory regulation as well as consciousness and sleeping. When nerve flow is hindered through the brain stem, the body becomes sick… when it ceases, the body dies.
In the world of Chiropractic, the brain stem receives much attention for its critical role in nerve transmission and its susceptibility to interference from upper cervical subluxations. There are Chiropractors who focus their entire practice on maintaining the alignment of this area – and it’s amazing the change one can experience in their health when brain stem interference is gently cleared.
